7 STUDIES AND PROJECTS
FOR MALANJE PROVINCE, ANGOLA

About the Project

In order to advance its comprehensive planning for municipal and rural development in its Malanje Province, the government of Angola asked Geo Data to carry out seven different studies and projects related to tourism development, master plans, basic infrastructure for residential areas, school and public place design, as well as a master plan for a new ring road and the requalification of 6 Malanje City neighborhoods.

The Challenge

Geo Data had to carry out a comprehensive study of the province’s physical and territorial characterization, including location, climate, geomorphology, main natural resources, water, geology, mining, energy sources, land use and local biomes.

Our Approach

While analyzing the province’s character and resources, as well as the socioeconomic aspects of its population, Geo Data also sought to identify landforms with scenic and tourism potential that could help grow the local economy and provide new sources of employment. We also developed a new urban master plan, adaptable to each of the province’s municipalities

The Solution

Among others, the studies and projects assisted local and national authorities in designing a new model for elementary schools in Malanje and throughout the country; advancing urban renewal; creating new public spaces for recreation and relaxation; rehabilitating parks and planning new ones; and developing a master plan for a new 45 km2 bypass ring road.

The Impact

Geo Data’s surveys paved the way for comprehensive urban renewal and rural development aimed at tapping Malanje province’s residential, tourism and economic potential.

Facts & Figures

  • 39-hectare infrastructure study in Malanje City
  • 45 km2 master plan for bypass ring road

Geodata’s surveys enabled the development of a dual-carriage ring road master Plan for Malanje Province, with a total length of approximately 45 kilometers, part of the province’s overall city rejuvenation scheme. This bypass road will carry through traffic without impacting residents and business areas and will alleviate congestion within the old town center, while enabling new developments.
